Senior Technical Product Owner
Location: Malta
Reports to: Chief Technology Officer
Overview:
The Senior Technical Product Owner will lead the vision, strategy, and roadmap for global payment services, aligning technical delivery with business objectives and market trends such as real-time payments, open banking, digital wallets, and cryptocurrencies.
Responsibilities:
- Define and own the product roadmap, ensuring alignment between business strategy and technology delivery.
- Drive partnerships and integrations with payment providers, acquiring banks, and alternative payment methods.
- Design and optimize transaction routing strategies to improve approval rates and reduce costs.
- Ensure compliance with key regulations and standards including PCI DSS v4.0, PSD2/PSD3, GDPR, AML/KYC, and emerging frameworks.
- Lead backlog prioritization, sprint planning, and delivery across multiple agile teams.
- Monitor and optimize KPIs such as uptime, transaction success rates, and time-to-market.
- Represent the organization with merchants, partners, and regulators, translating technical requirements into business value.
- Mentor and guide product teams, fostering collaboration and high performance across departments..
Requirements
- Strong understanding of the payments ecosystem (PSPs, acquirers, wallets, open banking, APMs).
- Expertise in compliance frameworks (PCI DSS, PSD2/3, GDPR, AML/KYC) and fraud prevention.
- Technical knowledge of API-first, microservices, and cloud-native architectures.
- Proven leadership, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
- Experience with Agile methodologies and data-driven product delivery.
- Proven local experience in the payments industry.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.
- 5+ years of product management or product ownership experience, including 2+ in payments or fintech.
