Our client is seeking a Fibre Optic Specialist to join its Network Operations team. In this role, the specialist will play a crucial part in maintaining the stability, resilience, and growth of the company. The position combines technical leadership with hands-on fieldwork, providing an opportunity to influence how the network evolves and serves thousands of customers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and enhance the fibre backbone: Drive network capacity, resilience, and seamless operations across the national network.
- Oversee field and office operations: Handle GIS updates, prepare work schedules, and support technicians with splicing, testing, and network troubleshooting.
- Ensure network performance: Utilize diagnostic tools, including OTDR, to identify and resolve issues such as cable faults, signal degradation, and system errors.
- Design scalable infrastructure: Collaborate with engineers to plan robust, standards-compliant fibre networks prepared for future growth.
- Mentor and guide teams: Train, supervise, and motivate fibre technicians, fostering skill development and maintaining high-quality work standards.
- Promote safety and compliance: Conduct inspections, enforce adherence to GPON, WDM, and ITU standards, and minimize customer impact during major operations.
Requirements:
- At least 3 years’ experience leading technical teams and managing on-site operations.
- Extensive knowledge of fibre optic systems, including splicing, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with telecom standards such as GPON, WDM, and ITU, and practical experience with Layer 1 and Layer 2 technologies.
- Ability to remain calm and deliver efficient solutions during outages or emergencies.
- Flexibility to work evenings or on-call to ensure uninterrupted service.
- Strong English and Maltese language including communication and collaboration skills for coordinating with internal teams and external partners.
