Operations & Business Manager

  Central Malta  |  €70,000 - €85,000 Annually 

Our client is an international client who is setting up base in Malta. They operate in the oil industry and have offices in a number of countries. They require an Operations and Business Manager role to execute business strategies that are alligned to the company's vision. The chosen candidate will mainly be coordinating with the Dutch office in this role.

The Role

  • You will identify new opportunities in crude oil, refined products (like EN590, Jet A1, and LPG), and energy logistics.
  • The role involves global expansion and management of client and partner portfolios, including direct buyers, refineries, and terminals.
  • You will oversee supply chain operations across CIF, FOB, and tank-to-tank (TTT) transactions.
  • You will ensure strict compliance with maritime and customs regulations.
  • Coordination with storage facilities, shipping agents, and inspection companies like SGS and Intertek is essential.
  • Financial oversight includes managing trading margins, cost structures, and profitability. Collaboration with finance teams on instruments such as SBLCs, BGs, and escrow accounts is required.
  • The role entails managing commercial contracts while mitigating legal, operational, and reputational risks.
  • You will lead cross-functional teams in sourcing, trading, legal, compliance, and marketing whilst supervising external providers like consultants, lawyers, and compliance auditors.
  • Regulatory compliance includes OFAC, EU sanctions, KYC/AML, and adherence to ISO and REACH standards. Maintaining governance structures and proper trade documentation reporting to the board is crucial.

Requirements

  • You will have have at least 5 years of relevant management experience in oil & gas or commodity trading.
  • The ideal candidate is multilingual, commercially astute, and skilled at leading under high pressure with integrity and strategic foresight.
  • You will preferably have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business Administration, Petroleum Engineering, International Trade, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of petroleum trade procedures, contracts (e.g., SPA, ICPO, CI), and documentation (BL, Q&Q, MSDS) will be considered as a strong asset
