Our client, a well-established company in the logistics and freight forwarding industry, is seeking a Customs Clearance Executive. This role involves managing the smooth clearance of goods through customs, ensuring compliance with Maltese, EU, and international regulations, and providing high-quality service to clients.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Prepare and process customs documentation for imports, exports, and transit movements, including personal effects.
- Communicate with Maltese Customs Authorities and other stakeholders to ensure quick and accurate clearance.
- Monitor and apply the correct regulations, tariffs, and duty requirements under Maltese, EU, and international frameworks.
- Assign HS codes and calculate duty, VAT, and other charges.
- Manage NSO documentation and prepare Electronic T2L forms for EU transit shipments.
- Collaborate with freight forwarders, shipping lines, and internal teams to keep shipments moving on schedule.
- Keep detailed records of all customs entries and ensure full compliance at all times.
- Provide clients with professional guidance on customs processes and requirements.
- Oversee customs warehousing for alcohol, maintaining accurate records for excise duty and VAT calculations.
- Troubleshoot and resolve customs-related issues quickly, ensuring service quality and client satisfaction.
Requirements
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple shipments simultaneously.
- Confident communicator able to interact effectively with customs officials, clients, and colleagues.
- Problem-solving and able to work independently.
- Organised, reliable, and able to prioritise under pressure.
- Good IT skills, especially Excel for calculations and records.
- Client-focused with a proactive, service-driven approach.
Education and Experience
- A-Level standard of education or higher.
- Formal training in logistics, supply chain, or customs-related areas is desirable but not essential.
- Previous background in customs clearance, freight forwarding, or logistics operations.
- Hands-on experience dealing with Maltese and EU customs procedures.
- Exposure to HS coding, duty/VAT calculations, and handling customs documentation.
- Familiarity with NSO and EU transit processes (T2L) is considered an asset.
