Our esteemed client is currently seeking to recruit a Scientific Glass Blower within their Probes Section. This role offers a unique opportunity for a skilled professional to take a lead role in the production of high-quality glass-based sensors used in industrial and laboratory applications
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the in-house glasswork expert, overseeing all processes related to scientific glass blowing within the probes department.
- Collaborate with the R&D team to contribute to the design and development of new glass-based sensor products.
- Evaluate and refine existing glasswork processes to ensure product consistency and high-quality standards.
- Support the transition from manual to automated and mechanized glass forming techniques.
- Monitor and implement advancements in glassblowing tools, materials, and processes for continuous improvement.
- Provide technical support and administrative oversight within the glass sensors production area.
Tools and Techniques You Should Be Proficient In
Candidates should have a solid working knowledge of the specialized tools and techniques used in scientific and industrial glassblowing, including:
- Glass lathes – for precise and symmetrical shaping of tubes and rods.
- Hand and bench torches (oxygen-propane or hydrogen mix) – for fusing, sealing, and forming.
- Annealing ovens/kilns – for stress relief and durability in finished components.
- Blow hoses with swivels – to control airflow during expansion of glass.
- Graphite paddles and reamers – for shaping, flaring, and refining.
- Tweezers, forceps, and glass cutters – for manipulation and trimming.
- Calipers, rulers, and alignment jigs – for maintaining dimensional accuracy.
- Familiarity with borosilicate and/or quartz glass is considered a strong asset.
Requirements
- Minimum of five years' experience in scientific or industrial glassblowing.
- Background in glass chemistry or related technical fields is advantageous.
- Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Strong attention to detail, process-oriented, and well-organized.
