Payroll Manager

  Central Malta  |  €35,000 - €45,000 Annually 

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Payroll Manager to take ownership of a large Group’s payroll function. This pivotal role will ensure the smooth and accurate processing of payroll across the organisation, guaranteeing compliance with local laws and supporting the business in its ongoing digitalisation journey.

Reporting directly to the Group CFO, you will work closely with managers from Accounts, HR, and Operations, while overseeing all aspects of payroll administration, system management, compliance, and reporting. What you will be doing:

  • Manage the end-to-end payroll process for all employees across the group, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely payments.
  • Oversee the collection, verification, and processing of data including rosters, attendance, overtime, and absenteeism.
  • Administer and optimise the payroll system, supporting automation and digitalisation initiatives to improve accuracy and efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with employment legislation, tax requirements, and statutory reporting obligations.
  • Reconcile payroll accounts and prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for senior management.
  • Handle payroll-related queries from employees in a timely and professional manner, acting as the key point of contact for internal stakeholders.
  • Prepare and submit FSS returns, social security contributions, and other regulatory filings.
  • Collaborate with HR and Finance teams on budgeting, forecasting, and workforce cost analysis.
  • Monitor and implement best practices in payroll management, ensuring continuous improvement of processes.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing accurate documentation and reconciliations.
  • Lead and mentor the payroll team, ensuring high levels of performance, accuracy, and customer service.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in payroll management, preferably within a multi-entity or group environment.
  • Strong understanding of employment law, payroll tax regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Proven experience with major payroll software and strong proficiency in Excel and MS Office applications.
  • Excellent analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • Strong leadership abilities, with experience in managing and developing teams.
  • High level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism in handling confidential information.
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to liaise effectively across departments.
