HSE Specialist

  Central Malta  |  €35,000 - €40,000 Annually 

The HSE Specialist will be responsible for supporting the effective implementation of health and safety policies and systems in line with International Standards, EU Directives, and Maltese regulatory requirements. The role contributes to ensuring safe workplaces, legal compliance, and continuous improvement of OHS performance across diverse operational environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply Occupational Health & Safety management systems, policies, and strategic direction to safeguard employees and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Carry out workplace safety inspections and prepare detailed findings and reports.
  • Perform Occupational Health & Safety risk assessments and issue documented evaluations and recommendations.
  • Monitor and maintain compliance with applicable OHS legislation, standards, and internal procedures.
  • Design and deliver OHS-related Toolbox Talks and safety awareness sessions.
  • Take part in on-site OHS audits and compliance reviews.
  • Support clients in monitoring, managing, and closing audit findings, including the effective use of audit management software.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with all relevant stakeholders using verbal, written, and digital communication channels.
  • Assist in incident and accident investigations, ensuring lessons learned are shared and corrective actions are implemented to address root causes.
  • Use dedicated OHS risk management software to record, track, and manage safety data and actions.

Requirements

  • Candidates must be fluent in both Maltese AND English
  • Sound knowledge of Maltese OHS legislation, EU directives, and international standards.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to engage effectively with senior management and operational teams.
  • Strong reporting, documentation, and analytical skills.
  • Proactive, organised, and detail-oriented approach.

Education and Experience

  • NEBOSH International General Certificate in OHS, and/or
  • An equivalent (or higher) qualification in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the OHS field.
  • Experience in working with International Safety Standards
