Our client, a leading local aviation company, is looking to recruit a Health & Safety Coordinator to join their growing team. Reporting to the head of the department, the chosen candidate will be responsible to:
Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and observations to identify hazards, unsafe conditions, and unsafe work practices.
Ensure all workers, subcontractors, and visitors comply with safety rules, procedures, and the Project Health & Safety Plan.
Assist in enforcing site access control measures and permit-to-work systems.
Promptly report safety observations, incidents, near misses, and hazardous conditions to the Health & Safety Specialist – Infrastructure Safety.
Facilitate and support toolbox talks, site inductions, and safety briefings.
Monitor the correct use, condition, and maintenance of personal protective equipment (PPE) and other safety equipment.
Support incident and accident investigations by collecting facts, evidence, and assisting with root cause analysis.
Maintain accurate, complete, and up-to-date safety records, reports, and site documentation.
Work closely with contractors, site management, and the safety team to resolve safety issues in a timely manner.
Promote a positive safety culture through proactive engagement, communication, and visible safety leadership on site.
Assist with emergency preparedness, drills, and response activities as required.
Ensure all duties are carried out in accordance with instructions and guidance provided by the Lead – Health & Safety Officer and the Health & Safety Specialist – Infrastructure Safety.
Perform any other duties or related tasks as assigned by the Company from time to time.
Requirements
Ability to identify potential hazards, assess risks, and develop strategies to mitigate them.
Proficiency in creating, implementing, and enforcing safety policies and procedures in accordance with industry standards and legal requirements.
Experience in conducting safety training sessions and workshops for employees to increase awareness and compliance with safety protocols.
Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey safety information to employees, management, and stakeholders.
Strong problem-solving skills to address safety challenges and recommend effective solutions.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health, Safety Management, or a related field.
Preferably hold, or be actively working toward, an academic qualification in Occupational Health and Safety that is certified by the Malta Qualifications Recognition Information Centre (MQRIC) at Level 5 or higher.
At least 2 years of experience in occupational health and safety, preferably in a similar industry or environment.
First Aid/CPR Certification: Basic first aid and CPR certification is often required.
