Operations Manager

  Central Malta  |  €45,000 - €55,000 Annually 

A well-established Company is searching for an Operations Manager – Port Services is accountable for overseeing all vessel berthing activities and related operational planning. The role ensures that terminals and port facilities are prepared for the safe docking of vessels and the smooth embarkation and disembarkation of passengers and crew, while maintaining compliance with all regulatory and contractual obligations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and coordinate the planning and scheduling of berthing operations, ensuring timetables are prepared and communicated across daily, weekly, monthly, and annual cycles.
  • Act as the primary liaison with Transport Malta, Police, Customs, Port Control, Malta Pilot Corps, Tug Malta, Malta International Airport, Air Malta, and other stakeholders, ensuring the efficient management of vessel calls and the timely exchange of information.
  • Collaborate with port agents, shore excursion providers, and service partners to secure smooth and efficient vessel turnaround.
  • Ensure vessels comply with licensing requirements and operational conditions.
  • Supervise passenger and crew embarkation/disembarkation processes, being present and monitoring berthing, departure, and related activities when required.
  • Work closely with the Security Manager/PFSO to maintain ISPS compliance and uphold all passenger terminal procedures.
  • Safeguard the Company’s alignment with government obligations and regulatory standards.
  • Collect and manage ship and passenger data for billing, reporting, and statistical analysis
  • Prepare operational and financial reports, including consolidation of Navision and Jet system outputs, while ensuring effective knowledge sharing.
  • Lead the preparation and submission of the annual budget, with accountability for achieving agreed targets.
  • Chair and lead operational coordination meetings.
  • Support the Head of Operations with the upkeep, maintenance, and cleanliness of terminals and quays.
  • Assist in the compilation and analysis of statistical data.
  • Contribute to the planning and delivery of events held at the terminal and Waterfront.
  • Identify funding opportunities and prepare proposals.
  • Represent the Company at external meetings, forums, and events as required.
  • Undertake additional tasks assigned by the Head of Operations & Projects or the Chief Executive Officer

Requirements

  • Fluency in Maltese AND English is a must
  • Excellent planning techniques
  • Technical awareness in terms of maritime environment
  • Excellent coordination skills
  • Experience in leading teams and sharing expertise (i.e. coaching, mentoring or training).
  • Candidates must be willing and able to work on-call during evenings, weekends or public holidays
  • Candidates must be willing and able to occassionally travel abroad for training purposes

Education and Experience

  • Diploma or equivalent in Operations Management is highly preferred
  • In the absence of the above, a minimum 5-year relevant work experience in a similar role is a must
  • In addition to the above, a minimum 2-year managerial experience is a must
