The Operations Manager oversees all daily operations of the feedmill to ensure efficient, safe, and cost-effective production of high-quality feeds. The role covers logistics, production, maintenance, quality, and distribution, driving operational excellence and continuous improvement in line with company goals.
Key Responsibilities
Logistics & Raw Materials
- Manage import, receipt, handling, and storage of raw materials.
- Coordinate with Procurement for timely, cost-effective deliveries.
- Maintain accurate inventory and optimal stock levels.
- Enforce raw material quality checks and proper storage to prevent contamination.
Production & Operations
- Plan and supervise daily feed production to meet demand and quality standards.
- Ensure smooth coordination between Production, Storage, Maintenance, and Distribution.
- Optimise processes to improve efficiency and reduce waste.
- Manage operational budgets and resource allocation.
Process Improvement
- Identify and implement process improvements to boost productivity, quality, and cost-efficiency.
- Collaborate with section leaders to standardise best practices.
- Distribution & Delivery
- Oversee feed dispatch and delivery to farms.
- Optimise routes, schedules, and vehicle usage for cost-effective distribution.
- Maintain strong customer service and delivery reliability.
Maintenance & Engineering
- Oversee preventive and corrective maintenance of all equipment and vehicles.
- Ensure spare parts availability and manage service providers.
- Lead plant upgrades and projects to enhance efficiency.
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure all operations meet quality, HACCP, and regulatory standards.
- Work with QA teams to uphold product consistency and safety.
- Promote a “quality-first” culture.
Health, Safety & Hygiene
- Enforce hygiene and safety protocols across all operations.
- Ensure compliance with EHS, EU, and local regulations.
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Facilities & Environmental Management
- Maintain clean, secure, and well-functioning facilities.
- Manage contractors and ensure environmental compliance.
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead and mentor production, maintenance, and logistics teams.
- Foster teamwork, accountability, and continuous learning.
Continuous Improvement & Reporting
Implement KPIs to monitor performance and drive improvement.
Report regularly to senior management on operations and progress.
Requirements
- Candidates must be located in Malta and have the legal right to work in Malta
- Proven ability to drive operational efficiency and enhance product quality through effective management practices
- Excellent leadership, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally.
- Proficiency in ERP systems and MS Office.
- Fluency in English; Maltese is an advantage.
Education and Experience
- Level 6 (Degree) qualification in a relevant field
- Minimum of 5 years of managerial experience within related industries
- Proven experience in an operations or plant management role, ideally within feed production, food manufacturing, or a related industry.
- Competency in operational planning, project management, and process optimization
- Strong financial acumen with experience in budgeting and cost control
- Knowledge of feed safety standards, quality standards and regulatory compliance
- Strong understanding of production processes, logistics, and maintenance management.
