Head of Accounting

  Central Malta  |  Up to €80,000 Annually 

A new opportunity has arisen for a Head of Accounting to join a well established firm offering accounting, corporate, investments and other services to a wide range of clients. The chosen candidate will manage a team of accountant while reporting to the Chief Operating Officer

Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of accountants, senior accountants, and accounting assistants.
  • Conduct performance reviews, provide constructive feedback, and identify professional development opportunities for team members.
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
  • Allocate resources effectively and manage departmental workload to meet deadlines.
  • Participate in the recruitment and onboarding of new accounting staff.
  • Oversee the preparation and review of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements for a diverse portfolio of clients.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant accounting standards (e.g., IFRS, GAAP), tax regulations, and statutory requirements.
  • Manage and review general ledger operations, journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end/year-end closing processes.
  • Implement and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure the integrity of financial data.
  • Develop, implement, and refine accounting policies and procedures to optimize efficiency and accuracy.
  • Oversee payroll processing and related compliance for clients where applicable.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, understanding their unique needs and delivering tailored solutions.
  • Identify opportunities to upsell additional services to existing clients.
  • Collaborate with other departments (e.g., tax, audit) to ensure seamless client service.
  • Stay abreast of changes in accounting standards, tax laws, and industry regulations.
  • Ensure all accounting practices adhere to professional ethics and regulatory guidelines.

Requirements

  • Solid previous local experience in client accounting
  • Managerial experience locally is a must

Education and Experience

  • Fully qualified through ACCA or equivalent
