Our client in the construction and steel production industry is seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer for a newly created, hands-on role. The successful candidate will oversee maintenance operations across both a steel production facility and a construction group’s maintenance site, leading a team of technicians to ensure all machinery, equipment, and vehicles are maintained, repaired, and performing at optimal levels.
The Main Responsibilities include:
- Lead, motivate, and develop a team of approximately seven technicians.
- Oversee maintenance and repair of vehicles, trucks, and heavy machinery.
- Ensure efficient operation, reliability, and continuous improvement of production machinery.
- Diagnose mechanical faults and carry out hands-on repair and maintenance work.
- Coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance schedules across both sites.
- Monitor equipment performance
- Collaborate closely with production and factory management to improve machine output and minimise downtime.
- Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and operational standards.
- Support integration and commissioning of new machinery or technologies.
- Prepare and maintain maintenance records, technical documentation, and reports.
Working Hours:
Monday to Friday, 6:30 AM – 3:30 PM (overtime may be required if machinery is not operating efficiently)
Requirements
- Excellent mechanical fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
- Valid Maltese driving licence required.
- Ability to work extra hours only when urgent issues arise.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
Education and Experience
- Warranted Mechanical Engineer (MQF Level 6 or higher in Mechanical Engineering).
- Fluent in Maltese, very essential for liaising with technicians and clients.
- Minimum of 3–5 years’ hands-on experience in industrial maintenance, production, or construction equipment.
- Strong leadership skills and previous experience supervising technical teams.
- Knowledge of performance monitoring systems, production efficiency metrics, and maintenance best practices.
- Proficient in technical documentation, MS Office, and relevant engineering software.
