Our client is seeking to recruit an HSE, Environment & Maintenance Engineer to join their food manufacturing operations in Gozo. The selected candidate will ensure full compliance with Maltese Health & Safety and Environmental legislation, while leading the Maintenance function to guarantee safe, efficient, and uninterrupted plant operations in accordance with food safety standards.
Responsibilities
Maintenance & Engineering
Plan, implement, and oversee preventive and corrective maintenance programs for production machinery and utility systems.
Introduce and manage a structured Maintenance IT system to enhance departmental efficiency and performance tracking.
Maximize plant uptime and operational reliability.
Supervise external engineering contractors and service providers.
Prepare, manage, and monitor maintenance budgets and capital expenditure projects.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at optimizing production efficiency.
Ensure all engineering activities comply with food safety and hygiene requirements.
Health, Safety & Food Safety Compliance
Ensure compliance with regulations issued by the Occupational Health and Safety Authority (OHSA).
Maintain adherence to environmental regulations set by the Environment & Resources Authority (ERA) and REWS.
Support compliance with food safety standards, including HACCP and BRC/IFS (where applicable).
Develop and regularly update risk assessments, method statements, and safe systems of work.
Lead incident and accident investigations, implementing corrective and preventive measures.
Foster and promote a strong safety culture across production, warehousing, and engineering teams.
Environmental Management
Monitor waste management practices, water and energy consumption, emissions, and sustainability initiatives.
Ensure full compliance with local permits and environmental licenses.
Maintain accurate environmental documentation and liaise with regulatory authorities.
Drive environmental improvement projects and energy-efficiency initiatives.
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering.
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment (experience within the food industry will be considered an asset).
Strong working knowledge of Maltese OHSA, REWS, and ERA regulations.
Proven experience in maintenance planning and asset management systems.
Strong leadership, communication, and analytical problem-solving skills.
NEBOSH or equivalent Health & Safety certification will be considered an asset.
