Our client is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Engineering Assistant to support the Head of Engineering and the broader technical team. This role combines technical, administrative, and logistical functions to help streamline engineering operations.
The Main Responsibilities are as follows:
Technical Support:
- Assist engineers with project preparation, testing procedures, and evaluation of results.
- Support the creation, editing, and review of technical documents such as specifications, reports, and design layouts.
- Assist in generating and modifying technical drawings and schematics using CAD software.
Project Coordination:
- Help track project schedules, ensuring timelines and milestones are met.
- Maintain and update project-related documents, including resource allocation and budgeting.
- Monitor project progress and provide updates or escalate concerns to the engineering team.
- Coordinate team meetings, prepare agendas, and support task assignments.
Equipment and Inventory Management:
- Keep an accurate record of engineering equipment, tools, and materials.
- Assist in setting up, maintaining, and operating engineering tools or machinery.
- Ensure all equipment is stored properly and maintained in working condition.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Assist in drafting and organising engineering documentation such as manuals, technical specifications, and compliance reports.
- Compile data for progress reports, testing outcomes, and quality control.
- Ensure documentation systems are kept current and easily accessible to the engineering team.
Administrative Support:
- Manage meeting schedules, record meeting minutes, and facilitate internal communication for the engineering department.
- Coordinate internal training sessions or technical workshops.
- Help prepare and process administrative documents, including expense reports and invoices.
Compliance and Safety:
- Support compliance with engineering regulations, standards, and best practices.
- Assist in monitoring and promoting safety procedures on engineering-related sites or activities.
Working Hours - 40 hour week ( flexibility is essential, as the Engineering Assistant may be required to provide support outside of regular hours in the event of critical incidents—such as major power outages or other urgent technical interventions )
Requirements
- Excellent technical aptitude and the ability to quickly acquire new skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and basic CAD tools (e.g., AutoCAD).
- Strong communication abilities, both written and verbal.
- Capable of multitasking, managing time effectively, and meeting deadlines.
- Meticulous attention to detail with the ability to handle technical data accurately.
- A highly organised, detail-oriented individual with a strong work ethic, the ability to learn quickly, work independently, and collaborate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Education and Experience
- A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field, or an HND/HTD diploma, is preferred.
- Prior experience in an engineering setting or relevant coursework in engineering is advantageous.
