Our client, operating in Gaming, is looking for an experienced Database Administrator to join their growing team.
The Database Administrator is responsible for managing and optimising the performance, availability, and security of database systems across both cloud and on-premises environments. This role includes hands-on database administration, automation, and collaboration with Data Architects, Platform Engineers, and Development teams. The position also supports development initiatives and contributes to team growth through knowledge sharing and mentorship.
Responsibilities
- Database Management & Optimisation: Oversee the operation and maintenance of MySQL 8.x (Percona) and other database systems, ensuring high availability, reliability, and optimal performance through routine monitoring and maintenance.
- Performance Tuning & Troubleshooting: Enhance database efficiency by analysing slow queries, tuning indexes, and resolving issues such as replication lag, locking, and job failures to maintain system stability.
- Automation & DevOps Integration: Automate repetitive administrative tasks, support CI/CD processes involving databases, and manage schema changes and data transformation scripts.
- Security & Compliance: Handle access controls, encryption, and compliance requirements. Support audit efforts and collaborate with security teams to reduce risk.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Serve as the go-to expert for database-related issues and work closely with engineering and development teams to align infrastructure support with data strategy.
- Continuous Improvement & Innovation: Identify areas for operational improvement, stay current with database technologies and best practices, and contribute to experimentation with new tools or migration approaches.
Requirements
- Strong expertise in MySQL 8.x (Percona), including replication setup, performance optimization, and backup/recovery processes
- Experience with monitoring and automation tools such as Ansible, Terraform, Python, Bash, or GitLab
- Solid understanding of database security, data integrity, and compliance standards
- Competence in managing and supporting hybrid environments (on-premises and cloud-based)
- Strong troubleshooting skills with a proactive approach to problem-solving and escalation
Education and Experience
- Minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience in a database administration role
