A reputable client of ours specialised within the Financial Services sector, is currently looking to onboard a Head of Compliance to join their team: The selected candidate will be reporting to the Board of Directors, and the CEO, and will be responsible for managing and overseeing the compliance and regulatory framework for the entity, serving as the appointed individual with the regulator, providing strategic leadership, direction, and oversight:
Duties:
Oversee the ongoing monitoring of compliance with laws, regulations, scheme requirements and internal policies, conducting regular compliance reviews and audits to assess the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls
Ensure that all regulatory interactions are managed effectively and professionally, preparing and signing off Malta specific regulatory reports and returns, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of all submissions.
Design, implement, and maintain an effective compliance program that aligns with the organisation’s strategic objectives, license requirements and adherence to the approved business plan, conducting risk assessments to identify compliance vulnerabilities and implement remedial action where necessary
Develop, update, and maintain compliance policies, procedures, and guidelines across the organisation, working closely with various stakeholders across the organisation, such as legal, risk management, and operations
Design and deliver training programs on regulatory compliance to all staff, including the Board of Directors and executive management, where appropriate, promoting a strong compliance culture throughout the organisation
Prepare and submit regular compliance reports to senior management and the Board of Directors, summarising key compliance activities, risks, areas of non- compliance and recommended actions, escalating material issues promptly
Promote a culture of ethics, integrity, and accountability across the organisation, providing guidance on ethical conduct, conflicts of interest, and professional standards,
Work closely with the Risk function to identify, assess, and mitigate compliance risks, ensuring that compliance considerations are integrated into the organisation’s overall risk management framework.
Act as the liaison person between the MFSA, Central Bank of Malta, and other regulators, retaining active involvement with the EMA, FIMA and other industry bodies on risk and regulatory compliance issues.
Requirements
The Role requires approval by the MFSA. Applicants must be PQ'd
A minimum of ten years' experience in payments or in AML, compliance auditing, compliance analysis, or as a compliance officer
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
AML/Compliance experience within the Financial Services industry and complementary sectors such as crypto, e-commerce
Education and Experience
A bachelor’s degree in legal, compliance, business (or any related field that’s relevant in the industry)
