Our client, operating within the financial sector, is seeking a highly experienced and strategic professional to lead its AML/CFT compliance function.
This senior leadership role is pivotal in driving the direction and effectiveness of the company's approach to anti-money laundering and countering the financing of terrorism across both financial and non-financial sectors.
Responsibilities:
- Define and lead the strategic direction of the AML/CFT compliance function in alignment with the broader mission and long-term objectives of the organisation.
- Develop and implement robust policies and procedures based on risk-based principles that adhere to international standards.
- Oversee the assessment and monitoring of money laundering and terrorist financing risks, ensuring appropriate adjustments to compliance priorities and practices.
- Mentor and manage a team of professionals, promoting a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement within the compliance function.
- Oversee the design and execution of internal processes to monitor performance, streamline workflows, and manage resources effectively.
- Maintain strong working relationships with external stakeholders, including other regulatory and enforcement bodies, to support a coordinated approach to AML/CFT compliance.
- Offer strategic guidance to senior leadership on emerging financial crime risks, regulatory trends, and compliance best practices.
- Contribute to strategic planning and the implementation of long-term initiatives that enhance the effectiveness of the AML framework
- Conduct and oversee in-depth research and analysis on AML topics, presenting findings and recommendations through detailed reports.
- Represent the organisation in national and international fora, participating in working groups, regulatory consultations, and industry conferences.
- Lead key projects and special initiatives aimed at strengthening the overall compliance structure and adapting to future regulatory developments.
Requirements
- At least 8 years' relevant experience, with at least two years in a senior-level role
- Applicants should be proficient in the laws that govern the prevention of money laundering and financing of terrorism in Malta and relevant international standards and EU legislation in the area.
- Excellent writing and verbal communications skills in both Maltese & English.
- Excellent project management skills, including the ability to coordinate multiple priorities in a fast-paced regulatory environment.
- Analytical acumen with the ability to interpret regulatory data, assess risk exposure, and recommend strategic actions.
Education and Experience
- A University Degree or an equivalent qualification at MQF Level 6 in law, banking and finance, financial services, insurance, accounting, auditing, statistics, or economics;
