Chief Operations Officer(COO)

  • The Chief Operating Officer (COO) reports directly to the CEO and manages key departments including operations, IT, HR, treasury, payments, and support services. As part of the Executive Management team, the COO ensures smooth daily operations, operational resilience, and overall efficiency. This role is with a leading financial institution.
  • In terms of leadership, the COO shapes and delivers operational strategies that align with the company's objectives and regulatory duties. You will oversee process improvements, digital transformation initiatives, and provide strategic guidance to the CEO and Board on infrastructure and operations. This requires a mix of forward-looking strategy and strong operational discipline.
  • Risk and governance responsibilities are central to the role. The COO ensures compliance with MFSA and other regulatory frameworks while managing operational risks effectively. You will work closely with senior risk and audit leaders to maintain a culture of accountability and ensure resilience plans are tested and reliable.
  • Technology oversight is another core area, where the COO ensures IT operations are secure, reliable, and innovation-driven. You will champion the adoption of tools that enhance customer experience and efficiency while maintaining adherence to ICT risk standards, including DORA and cybersecurity obligations. Strong digital transformation leadership is essential in this function.
  • The COO also leads on people and culture, motivating teams to achieve excellence while nurturing collaboration and continuous improvement. They mentor senior leaders, strengthen succession planning, and actively promote diversity, inclusion, and staff engagement. Effective leadership is required to align staff with the company's wider strategic goals.
  • The COO impacts financial and operational performance by managing costs, monitoring KPIs, and overseeing third-party and outsourcing agreements. You will ensure vendors deliver value and regulatory compliance. 
  • You will bring senior leadership experience in financial services, expertise in financial services regulations, proven resilience in transformation projects, strong financial skills, and excellent stakeholder management capabilities.

Requirements

  • You will preferably be qualified with a finance related degree
  • Have at least 5 years experience in a similar position
  • Have excellent communications skills
  • Be Tech Saavy and well conversant with technologies
  • Be assertive yet approachable
