Senior Business Systems Analyst

Our client, operating in the payments industry, is looking for an experienced Senior Business Systems Analyst to join their growing team: 

The Business Analyst will be responsible for monitoring and recommending improvements to software and business systems. The role involves overseeing the implementation of projects and changes from initiation through to completion.

Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, this individual will participate in requirements gathering with clients, documenting, configuring, and testing requirements and enhancements for both new and existing projects. The position requires direct client interaction and collaboration with internal teams to provide estimates, perform analyses, and deliver high-level design for change requests and project delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Lead discovery sessions and requirements workshops with clients to gather, refine, and validate business needs while promoting the use of existing platform capabilities over bespoke solutions.
  • Perform detailed impact assessments to evaluate technical, operational, and downstream system implications of proposed changes.
  • Translate business and customer requirements into clear functional and technical specifications, ensuring alignment across Product, Engineering, Quality Assurance, and Operations teams.
  • Analyze technical documentation, including file specifications, APIs, and messaging standards (e.g., ISO 8583), to identify system impacts and integration requirements.
  • Query and analyze merchant, transaction, and product rule data to support solution design, troubleshooting, and impact analysis.
  • Provide Level 1 and Level 2 support during System Integration Testing (SIT) and User Acceptance Testing (UAT), while participating in a 24/7 on-call support roster as required.
  • Collaborate with the Project Management team to plan and coordinate software releases, ensuring delivery aligns with client SLAs and implementation timelines.
  • Facilitate client workshops and deliver professional support services in both remote and on-site environments.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive records of support tickets, project activities, and customer communications.
  • Undertake additional duties and responsibilities as assigned to support business objectives.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of card payment systems, payment processing, and industry messaging standards.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and impact assessment skills.
  • Proven ability to communicate complex technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical stakehold
  • Demonstrated experience leading client workshops, stakeholder meetings, and requirements gathering sessions in both remote and on-site environments.

Education and experience

  • Certificate, diploma, or degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business & IT, or an equivalent qualification and/or work experience. A Master’s degree is desirable.
  • Minimum of five years' experience within the card payments industry, with hands-on expertise in areas such as card issuing, merchant acquiring, card scheme compliance, or related payment technologies.
  • Located in Malta with local experience in the industry.
