Maintenance Manager

Our client within the Shipping Industry is seeking an experienced and hands-on Maintenance Manager to oversee the maintenance and servicing of our fleet while leading the daily operations of their workshop.

This role is ideal for a technically skilled professional with experience in heavy trucks, trailers, and commercial vehicles, combined with strong leadership abilities. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring fleet reliability, minimising downtime, maintaining compliance, and driving an efficient workshop operation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, supervise, and motivate the workshop maintenance team to ensure efficient and high-quality service delivery.
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee the daily servicing, repairs, inspections, and maintenance of the company fleet.
  • Perform diagnostics, fault finding, servicing, and repairs on heavy trucks, trailers, and commercial vehicles when required.
  • Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules to maximise fleet availability and reduce breakdowns.
  • Ensure all vehicles remain roadworthy and compliant with company standards and legal regulations.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, service histories, and workshop documentation.
  • Manage the procurement and stock control of spare parts, tools, and workshop equipment.
  • Work closely with the Transport and Operations teams to ensure vehicles are available to meet operational requirements.
  • Coordinate emergency breakdown assistance and urgent repairs as required.
  • Promote a safe, organised, and compliant workshop environment in line with health and safety standards.
  • Allocate workloads effectively to maximise productivity while minimising unnecessary overtime.
  • Prepare weekly maintenance schedules and organise resources to ensure business continuity, including during employee absences.
  • Ensure company policies and procedures are consistently followed.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in fleet maintenance, with a strong background in heavy trucks, trailers, and commercial vehicles.
  • Previous experience leading or supervising a workshop or maintenance team.
  • Strong mechanical, diagnostic, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent planning, organisational, and time management abilities.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and perform effectively in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Good understanding of vehicle compliance, health and safety regulations, and workshop best practices.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • A proactive, hands-on approach with excellent attention to detail.
