Head of Sales and Business Development (Technical Construction)

Our client, an established construction and building materials company in Malta, is seeking a Head of Sales & Business Development with strong technical knowledge of construction materials and an established network within the Maltese construction industry.

Reporting directly to the CEO, the role will focus on growing sales, generating new business and developing key customer relationships, with the opportunity to build and lead a sales team as the function grows.

The company is recognised for its technical expertise, sustainability and environmentally responsible production, including water recycling and in-house laboratory testing.

The Main Responsibilities include: 

  • Develop and implement the sales and business development strategy.
  • Generate new leads, identify projects and develop new customer opportunities.
  • Manage the sales pipeline and maintain accurate forecasts.
  • Develop and manage relationships with contractors, developers, architects, engineers, QSs and consultants.
  • Understand construction materials, their composition, applications and technical benefits, and recommend suitable solutions.
  • Prepare quotations, proposals and commercial offers following training.
  • Deliver product presentations and lead commercial negotiations.
  • Work with production, laboratory, technical and operational teams to ensure solutions can be delivered.
  • Manage key accounts and identify repeat business and cross-selling opportunities.
  • Work with Accounts to monitor customer accounts, credit control and outstanding payments.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activity, customer requirements and pricing.
  • Support marketing campaigns, technical content, events and product launches.
  • Contribute to developing the sales function and future sales team.

Travel: Regular travel across Malta to meet clients, contractors and construction professionals

Requirements

  • Valid driving licence.
  • Fluent in English and Maltese.
  • Strong technical understanding of construction materials and building products is essential.
  • Established knowledge of and professional network within the Maltese construction industry is mandatory.
  • Ability to understand technical information and communicate it clearly to customers.
  • Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and relationship-building skills.
  • Proactive, results-focused and capable of generating new business.

Education and experience

  • A technical qualification in engineering, construction, architecture, quantity surveying or a related field is advantageous, but relevant technical knowledge and industry experience will also be considered.
  • Able to work independently and take ownership of the sales function.
  • Previous experience in sales, business development or a customer-facing commercial role, ideally within construction, building materials, manufacturing or a related technical sector.
  • Local industry experience is a must for this role
