Safety and Compliance Officer (Aviation)

A leading aviation organisation is seeking a Safety & Compliance Officer to join its Malta-based operations. The role offers broad exposure across business aviation, safety management, compliance monitoring, ground handling and maintenance environments, within a lean structure supported by an established international group.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft, review and maintain the Safety Management Manual (SMM) and Compliance Monitoring Manual (CMM).
  • Ensure manuals and procedures remain current, accurate and aligned with applicable regulations and operational requirements.
  • Coordinate safety and compliance activities across the organisation’s aviation approvals and international line stations.
  • Work closely with both in-house and subcontracted support teams.
  • Support nominated persons across departments with documentation management, procedure writing and compliance activities.
  • Ensure consistency across the organisation’s manual and documentation suite.
  • Audit scheduling.
  • Tracking findings and corrective actions.
  • Supporting the close-out of audit findings.
  • Occurrence and hazard reporting administration.
  • Maintaining risk assessment records.
  • Preparing Safety Review Board materials.
  • Take ownership of the Flight Data Monitoring (FDM) programme.
  • Develop and maintain safety trend monitoring processes.
  • Capture, analyse and report operational safety data.
  • Feed safety monitoring findings into the SMS and support continuous improvement.
  • Assist with documentation required for Civil Aviation Directorate audits, approvals and amendments.
  • Monitor relevant EASA and Malta regulatory changes.
  • Assess regulatory changes and highlight their potential impact on procedures and operations. Progressively take greater ownership of safety and compliance functions as experience within the organisation develops.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in aviation safety, quality, compliance or operations.
  • Experience within an AOC, CAMO, Part-145 or ATO environment would be advantageous.
  • Working knowledge of the EASA regulatory framework, particularly - Part-ORO and Part-CAT and/or Part-NCC.
  • Strong ability and genuine interest in writing, structuring and maintaining aviation manuals and procedures.
  • Excellent written English.
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Practical and commercially aware approach to safety and compliance.
  • Ability to work efficiently within a lean operational environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with both internal and subcontracted teams.
  • Eligibility to work in Malta / the EU.

Desirable

  • SMS training.
  • Internal or lead auditor training.
  • Previous business aviation experience.
  • Exposure to ground handling and/or FBO operations.
  • Exposure to Part-145 maintenance environments.
  • Experience managing Flight Data Monitoring (FDM) programmes.
  • Familiarity with Malta Civil Aviation Directorate processes.
