Our client is seeking an experienced HR Manager to take ownership of the company’s HR function. This is a standalone, hands-on position suited to a self-sufficient and proactive HR professional who can work independently with minimal supervision. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and developing structures in place rather than building the HR function from scratch.
The HR Manager will work closely with the Managing Director and support ongoing organisational development and internal restructuring.
The Main Responsibilities include:
- Manage the full HR function and employee lifecycle, acting as the main HR point of contact for management and employees.
- Manage recruitment, onboarding, probation, performance management and offboarding.
- Advise management on employee relations, disciplinary and grievance matters, performance issues and HR best practices.
- Maintain and develop existing HR policies, SOPs, employee handbooks and procedures.
- Manage monthly payroll and HR administration, including contracts, employee records, leave, benefits and payroll-related queries.
- Ensure compliance with Maltese employment legislation, HR regulations and internal policies.
- Manage Identità and Jobsplus processes, including third-country national applications, renewals and employment registrations.
- Support salary reviews, remuneration structures and EU Pay Transparency requirements, including monitoring potential pay gaps and inconsistencies.
- Coordinate training, development, employee engagement and retention initiatives.
- Support management with organisational restructuring and HR-related projects.
- Liaise with external recruitment, legal, payroll and HR service providers when required.
- Maintain accurate, confidential and up-to-date HR documentation and records.
Requirements
- Strong knowledge of Maltese employment legislation and HR practices.
- Understanding of the EU Pay Transparency Directive.
- Strong employee relations and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Highly self-sufficient, proactive and accountable, with a strong sense of ownership.
- Hands-on and comfortable managing both operational and strategic HR matters.
- Able to quickly understand and align with the company’s culture and ways of working.
- Organised, detail-oriented and able to manage multiple priorities.
- Practical, solutions-oriented and able to hit the ground running.
Education and experience
- Relevant degree or professional qualification in Human Resources, Management, Employment Relations or a related field.
- 3–5+ years of relevant HR experience, ideally in an HR Manager, Senior HR Generalist or HR Business Partner capacity.
- Proven experience independently managing a broad HR function.
- Experience with payroll and HR administration; Shireburn knowledge would be an advantage.
- Experience with Identità, Jobsplus and third-country national processes would be considered an advantage.
- Experience within a multi-site, retail, healthcare or operational environment would be an asset.
