Environmental Health & Safety Officer

Our client is looking to recruit an Environmental Health & Safety Officer to join their growing team. The chosen candidate will:

Health & Safety

  • Develop, implement, review and update the Group's Health & Safety policies, procedures and management plans to ensure ongoing compliance with applicable legislation and industry best practices.
  • Prepare, review and maintain risk assessments, safe systems of work, method statements and all associated Health & Safety documentation.
  • Conduct workplace inspections, audits and risk assessments, identifying hazards and implementing appropriate control measures to minimise risk.
  • Investigate workplace accidents, incidents and near misses, prepare reports, identify root causes and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
  • Provide guidance and support to managers and employees on Health & Safety matters relevant to their departments and operations.
  • Monitor changes in Health & Safety legislation and maintain up-to-date knowledge of all applicable Occupational Health and Safety Authority (OHSA) regulations and industry developments.
  • Promote a positive Health & Safety culture throughout the organisation by delivering training, awareness campaigns and employee engagement initiatives.
  • Monitor compliance with Health & Safety policies and procedures across all Company sites and recommend continuous improvements.

Environmental

  • Manage and oversee all aspects of the Company's environmental compliance in accordance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor existing and emerging Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) legislation and develop strategies, programmes and action plans to ensure continued compliance.
  • Develop, implement and maintain the Company's Environmental Management System (EMS) and EHS management systems in accordance with recognised standards, including ISO 14001.
  • Develop and implement initiatives aimed at reducing environmental, health and safety risks while promoting sustainable operational practices.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the Company's operational processes and identify opportunities to improve environmental and safety performance.
  • Maintain current knowledge of environmental management best practices, waste management legislation and occupational Health & Safety standards.
  • Evaluate processes, equipment and operational systems to identify environmental, health and safety impacts and recommend appropriate improvements.
  • Work closely with site management to develop and implement risk assessments, environmental controls and Health & Safety plans to ensure safe working conditions.
  • Coordinate environmental monitoring, reporting and compliance activities, ensuring all required records and documentation are maintained.
  • Liaise with regulatory authorities, including the Environment and Resources Authority (ERA), the Occupational Health and Safety Authority (OHSA), local authorities and other regulatory bodies regarding inspections, audits, accident investigations and compliance matters.
  • Represent the Company during external inspections, audits and regulatory visits, ensuring effective communication and timely resolution of any findings.

General

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across Environmental, Health & Safety management systems and operational performance.
  • Maintain accurate EHS records, reports and statutory documentation.
  • Support the achievement and maintenance of relevant management system certifications and compliance objectives.
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties and responsibilities commensurate with the position as assigned by Management.

Education and experience

  • Qualification in Safety, Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of previous experience in a similar position.
  • Good working knowledge and experience of Maltese environmental, health and safety regulations/legislation.
  • Experience with Environmental Management ISO14001 will be given preference
