Our client, a start up payments company is seeking to recruit for an AML Analyst who will support the Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) in ensuring compliance with Malta’s Prevention of Money Laundering and Funding of Terrorism Regulations (PMLFTR) and the FIAU Implementing Procedures, as well as respective EU regulations. The person will handle due diligence, transaction monitoring, and internal reporting to mitigate financial crime risks within the payment institution.
Duties include:
- Perform onboarding checks for corporate clients in line with risk-based approach.
- Conduct enhanced due diligence (EDD) for high-risk clients (such as PEPs, etc.).
- Verify beneficial ownership and source of funds/wealth documentation.
- Review customer transactions to identify unusual or suspicious patterns.
- Investigate red-flag transactions and escalate findings to the MLRO.
- Maintain customer risk profiles and ensure periodic reviews are conducted.
- Prepare internal suspicious activity reports (SARs) for review by the MLRO.
- Maintain AML/CFT records in compliance with regulatory retention requirements.
- Assist with responses to FIAU or MFSA requests for information.
- Support the MLRO in implementing AML/CFT frameworks and policies.
- Contribute to periodic AML risk assessments.
- Help draft and update internal AML procedures and staff training materials.
- Participate in AML/CFT training sessions.
- Keep up to date with changes in AML laws, typologies, and best practices.
Requirements
- 1–3 years of experience in AML/compliance, preferably within financial services or fintech.
- Good understanding of Malta’s PMLFTR, FIAU Implementing Procedures, and EU AMLD directives.
- Strong analytical and investigative skills.
- Proficiency in transaction monitoring systems and KYC tools.
- Excellent command of English
- Local experience is required for this role
