Financial Controller

A client of ours, specialised within the Hospitality sector, and a pioneer in the local hotels, catering, travel and events sectors, is looking to onboard a Financial Controller to join their long standing team of professionals. The designated person will be reporting to the Board and the Director, and responsibilities are as follows:

Duties:

  • Act as a strategic advisor to the Board and senior management on financial and commercial matters, developing and implementing the Group's overall financial strategy in line with its business entities’ objectives.
  • Provide overall, insightful analysis of the entities’ and Group performance, identifying opportunities to improve revenue, profitability, cash flow and support business expansion.
  • Take overall responsibility for accurate and timely management accounts, financial reporting, annual budgeting processes, and regular forecasting cycles for the hotels.
  • Monitor actual performance against budgets and forecasts, identifying variances and corrective actions, overseeing cash-flow management, working capital, and liquidity.
  • Provide the Board with meaningful and timely financial dashboards, KPIs, and performance reporting.
  • Work closely with hotels’ management to drive financial and operational performance, monitoring key hospitality metrics, including occupancy, departmental profitability, labour costs, and overall hotel margins.
  • Identify areas of revenue leakage, unnecessary expenditure, and operational inefficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with Maltese accounting, tax and statutory requirements.
  • Develop and maintain appropriate financial policies, procedures and approval controls.
  • Ensure the Group’s finance teams provide timely, accurate and useful information to the Board and operational management, also identifying opportunities for the Group to improve systems, automation and financial processes.

Requirements

  • Significant (local) experience in a similar senior finance leadership role within the hospitality sector
  • Strong understanding of local tax, statutory and regulatory requirements
  • Demonstrable commercial acumen and experience using financial information to improve business performance.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and in Maltese
  • Strong Excel and financial systems/ERP experience.

Education and experience

  • A recognised professional accountancy qualification, such as ACCA or a similar local qualification.
