Senior Backend Engineer

Our leading financial services client is recruiting an experienced Senior Backend Engineer to join their exceptional and growing engineering team! As a senior member you will partner closely with product and cross-functional leaders and drive the development of the products & core platform initiatives. Responsibilities will include:

• Leading the planning and technical design of projects and contribute to the technology processes and strategies
• Driving improvements in engineering techniques, standards, practices and processes across the engineering team
• Encouraging a culture of knowledge sharing and collaboration
• Collaborating with peers across the company, making sure best practices and tools are shared and leveraged across the entire company
• Maintaining an in-depth understanding of the business logic embodied in the in-house software and its development infrastructure and project delivery process
• Identifying and proposing strategies for technical problem solving, while actively participating in guilds and community of practice teams and initiatives to shaping the technology roadmap

Skill-sets and Requirements

• 5 years working in software engineering, with 2 years at a senior level
• Experience leading the development of new products & launching products at scale
• Expert knowledge in Java/JVM, with experience in building large scale distributed applications (or polyglot open jumping into Java)
• Experience in using databases at large scale is also a must
• An ability to solve complex projects whilst identifying opportunities for ownership
• Payments domain experience, either in B2B OR B2C will be considered an asset
• Experience of transitioning from a monolith/on-prem system to microservices/cloud will also be considered an asset
• A team player mentality

Education & Experience

A degree in Computer Sciences or similar is required for the role
