Legal Officer

€25,000 - €34,000  |  Malta

A Legal Officer position is currently available with an exciting and growing department within a local authority. 


  • Reporting to the Chairperson 
  • Providing legal advice internally
  • Liaising with local and foreign authorities and providing input in relation to standards, guidelines, and recommendations
  • Monitoring EU legislation within financial services
  • Monitoring any developments internationally which may be relevant to schemes in Malta
  • Keeping updated in relation to any developments
  • Regular monitoring of potential liabilities, pledges and contracts
  • Preparing the Annual Reports, respond to queries and participating in surveys and questionnaires
  • Providing secretarial services to the Management Committee and taking minutes of meetings
  • Representing during legal proceedings at any court or tribunal as may be necessary from time to time a
  • The preparation of legal documents and contracts as may be required
  • Attending meetings, which may also take place overseas from time to time
  • Handling ad-hoc assignments related that may arise from time to time and reporting the outcome to the Management Committee 

Education & Experience:

  • You must be a qualified Lawyer
  • Being in possession of a legal Warrant to practice in the Courts of Malta is a must
  • A minimum of 2 years previous legal experience in the financial services industry locally is a requirement
  • Knowledge on the relevant local legal and regulatory framework is a must
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Excel

  • Self confident and excellent negotiation skills
  • Fluency in Maltese and English
