General Manager

  Gozo  |  €90,000 - €110,000 Annually 

A reputable client of ours specialising in the Retail industry is currently looking to onboard a General Manager. The designated person will report directly to the Board and will be responsible for giving strategic guidance and direction to the management and staff to ensure that the group achieves its business objectives:


  • Provide strategic advice and guidance to all the senior managers, ensuring appropriate policies are developed to meet the company's mission and objectives
  • Plan, motivate and coordinate the company's management through leadership and solid business practices
  • Establish and enforce company standards focusing strongly on ethical business practices
  • Overview the development and review of annual business plans, budgets and Key Business Indicators, monitoring their progress and implementation to ensure that set targets and strategic objectives are met and present annual budgets for the group to the Board of Directors
  • Prepare weekly agendas in a structured and organised manner during the weekly meetings, giving an overview of the whole company's plans and performance of the business, and prepare and present any presentations in this regard every quarter to the Board of Directors
  • Ensure that current, accurate and relevant operations data is readily available to support and document decision-making processes
  • Define requirements for the development and enhancement of all operational systems, and oversee the production of reports, statistics and related information for review 
  • Monitor performance of current business units to plan and execute improvements to the business model ensuring that the company delivers according to or better than the agreed budget
  • Oversee the implementation and monitor in a structured manner any capital projects that are approved by the Board of Directors, and ensure timely completion within budgets
  • Identify new business opportunities and create new business ventures within the parameters set by the Board of Directors, and present these accordingly, also identifying and negotiating new brands to meet the strategic objectives of the company.
  • Establish and maintain effective formal and informal links with major customers, relevant government agencies, local authorities and other stakeholders
  • Plan, develop and implement financial strategy together with the Financial Controller, and oversee the monthly management accounts, ensuring these are complete, and submitted on time to the Head office.
  • Maintain Hardware and Software systems and effective data management in order: to be able to make timely decisions; react on time and ensure business continuity via Documentation.
  • Ensure a solid management HR structure focusing on a Business Continuity game plan in every area, planning, developing and implementing HR strategies with the Human Resources Managers
  • Define and monitor the Environmental and Health & Safety objectives for the Company, ensuring necessary structure (employees, resources etc.) are set up to achieve these objectives.
  • Develop and implement a documentation system within the Company ensuring written procedures are developed and maintained in the main areas important to the business.

Skill-sets and Requirements

  • Must have a miniimum of 8 years experience and a solid background working in similar role
  • Must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, in English, and ideally in Maltese
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills as well as being assertive and a serious decision maker

Education & Experience

A degree level of education is required; A strong financial background and relevant qualifications will be considered an asset
