  • Personnel Selection as a Signaling Game

    Personnel selection is the exchange of information between applicants and organizations; a key action for recruiters. It seems that applicants and organizations approach employment relationships with different targets in mind. Personnel selection is the moment when these diverging targets are brought together for the first time.


    The search for a fit between the goals of a particular individual and the goals of a particular organization typically begins with the selection process. Individuals seek a work organization where they can fulfill their goals, and organizations try to hire people who can help them reach their objectives.

    During a job interview a candidate may try to appear qualified for the job by producing answers s/he feels is what the recruiter is looking for. This issue is a delicate one, as these candidates are disturbing the balance between recruiters and candidates. The problem that recruiters face, and which they must solve is the right process on how to gain accurate data on the candidate’s intentions and abilities. Interesting read.
